Bio
Joyce Carpenter is a knitter and dabbler in other fiber arts. She learned to knit as a Girl Scout, knit enthusiastically in her teen and college years, then put her needles aside for a career in aerospace engineering. Her interest was rekindled shortly before retiring from the corporate world when a niece asked Auntie Joyce to teach her how to knit.
Joyce completed requirements to be certified as a Master Hand Knitter by The Knitting Guild Association in 2013. She has taught knitting classes at SAFF and the Heritage Weavers and Fiber Artists. Her awards for knitted garments include Best in Show at the 2012 SAFF Skein and Garment competition, and First Place and Judges’ Choice at the 2013 Mountain State Fair.
When she isn’t pursuing fiber crafts, Joyce tackles do-it-yourself projects around the house and garden. She lives near Fairview, NC with her husband and cat.
